Have any spare yarn left over? These quick baubles are so cute and very easy to crochet! Find the pattern here by Greedy for Colour. Wishing everyone a very merry Xmas! x
I finally published my climbing leaves scarf pattern!! Many, MANY thanks to my pattern testers, both found right here on tumblr, ohsopathos and slothshark. Thanks again, ladies!
If you’re on Ravelry, you can purchase the pattern here. It is also available on Craftsy and I may list it for sale in my ArtFire studio - I haven’t decided yet.
Hooray! Look at the pretty pictures, then go buy! :P It’s a beautiful pattern and it was so fun having the privilege of being one of the first to give it a go.

I hate using patterns for anything because people don’t know how to measure.
Speaking of measurements, I hate when people make patterns and say “continue until piece measure 5 inches” or something to that extent. You’d have to have the exact same gauge for stuff like this, and I can honestly never get it right…. it’s like “Crap, do I stop at 4.75 inches, or go to 5.25 inches?” and then things start to look wonky.
It’s also much harder to resize when there isn’t an actualy proportionate number of rows everywhere…..
… or, you know, I might be the only one with this kind of issue.
Day 24: Have you ever made your own pattern or dyed your own yarn? How did it turn out?
I semi-made my own pattern once. I say semi, because I used a stitch from someone else’s pattern. As to how it turned out, I think it was okay for me. No idea if anyone else has tried it and had any problems.
For the most part, I like to follow other people’s patterns. Occasionally, I’ll make slight changes based on what I need or my end goal, but other people have alreadydone such great work I don’t feel the need to spend time attempting to work and re-work my own pattern. Anything you can think of, someone’s already made it!
As for dyeing… I’m actually quite afraid to get into it. Mostly because I believe that it’s not something that’s feasible for me. I don’t particularly have the kitchen for it, nor the drying space. I’m also apprehensive about the chemical smells of the dyes. But to be completely honest, the reason I don’t get into it is largely for the expense factor. I just don’t have the budget for buying all the materials necessary for this, especially when undyed yarn sometimes costs as much as pre-dyed!
Tried working on a crochet rug at lunch and this evening. I wanted to put something at the front door.
I was trying to make something up and it just wasn’t working out. I feel frustrated about the fact that I might be forever stuck following other people’s patterns, rather than making up my own. It would be nice when people say “That’s beautiful!” that I could take 100% credit for it, and not feel like saying “it’s someone else’s genius, I just copied it.”
It’s like when you follow a recipe… maybe you can cook, but it doesn’t make you a chef.
I should have just read the signs from the beginning, though. I was going to recycle some old shirt and make the rug out of that… only I went through everything to realize that I don’t own t-shirts, let alone have old ones! :P
Or maybe I just gave up too quickly.
