The practical yarn bowl…luckily I stashed thrift teapots like mad last summer for planters! Who needs to pay $40 for a new one?

DIY Bamboo Wooden Yarn Bowl Tutorial by dtextor from Instructables here. Great photos and good instructions. I normally do not post projects that need power tools, but in the numerous comments a “coping saw” was mentioned as an alternative (like the ones at Amazon here). What a great gift this would have made over the holidays for someone who knits or crochets. First seen at Make here.

I made a smaller size yarn bowl that’s perfect for small projects or beginning knitters as a welcoming gift :)  The color turned out amazingly.  The blue hare’s fur glaze is coming out more deep green than blue but it’s still breaking into blue and brown in a beautiful way.  It’s just a single glaze but it looks like a more complicated set of glaze dips.  Anyway, I’m really pleased with this.

I’ve been working to get this color combination down. The deep amber glaze is notorious for running all over the kiln shelves, especially when I want to mix it with the clear to get that nice honey color. So my solution on this yarn bowl was to do the ketchup about 3/4 of the way down and then flip and do the bottom in clear. I like it and the glaze is glassy and smooth!

Lovely!
